Enough IS Enough

Do you feel bombarded to strive for MORE? Social media influencers and advertisers tell us we need new clothes, new shoes, a new car, and new home décor because what we have isn’t good enough. Have you noticed this mindset carrying into your work life--Running on the hamster wheel chasing after MORE goals, MORE money, and MORE promotions because that is where satisfaction and joy lie….? What if I asked you to reframe your mindset and focus on the concept that Enough IS Enough? What if instead of seeking more, you took a moment to appreciate where you are and what you have? Finding time to be grateful for the role you’ve been given, for the people around you, and for the opportunities you have to learn and grow.

Setting and chasing after goals is a valuable pursuit, but when your only aim is to get MORE, it can blind you to the incredible opportunities right in front of you. In fact, it might even steal your joy. I’m not advocating for complacency or settling for less. Rather, I’m encouraging you to find joy in your present circumstance while you continue to pursue your goals. See every opportunity and challenge you face as a valuable part of your journey forward. What if you are strategically placed in your current role for a reason that you do not currently understand? Embrace this moment as a pivotal step in your professional journey, a springboard that will leave a lasting mark on your path.

Ready to foster contentment? Here are a couple ideas to get you started:

  • Seek out new learning opportunities. For the next week, jot down each day at least one new thing you learn at work and one thing you help someone else learn. Nothing big, just simple things..perhaps you learn what that pesky little button on your phone is for. Trust me, by the end of the week you’ll be amazed at the things you’ve learned. And as a bonus you may feel a little more satisfied at work too.

  • Show gratitude and celebrate your current successes. Individually it is important to celebrate your accomplishments. As a leader it is SO VERY important to celebrate the successes of your team! Take a minute at the beginning of your next team meeting to pause and celebrate both small and significant wins. It can be as simple as asking the question…. “What did we accomplish last week that makes you proud? A simple yet powerful opportunity to model contentment.

Embracing contentment means that you are embracing the opportunity to feel more engaged, creative, productive, and collaborative at work. A small shift in your mindset and actions can lead to a workplace where everyone genuinely loves to be. So, start your week with the mantra, Enough IS Enough!
